Before we check the fields next to width, length, and thickness, we’ll open the iProperties>Custom tab. We’ll see that it’s empty.

Now, we select the checkboxes for the mentioned fields and click Done

Let's look again at the iProperties > Custom tab. Width, length, and thickness appeared.

Inventor automatically adds them as custom properties, but how can we now use these fields? Let’s move to the Project tab and enter the following expression in the Stock Number field:
=<width> x <length> x <thickness>

Stock number formula Stock number formula

While you’re still in the Stock Number field, press Enter, and the appearance of the field changes to:

Stock number filed vith values Stock number filed vith values

If we change one of the parameters, the Stock Number field updates automatically

The Stock Number field can, for example, be used when creating drawings for marking views.
